2025 Vision Boards & Goals

Annual Goal Setting vs Shorter Periods

Are you a goal setter? Over the years, I’ve gone through many phases of “resetting” and “building” my goals - some at the start of the year, others at random points in the year, and a few just during life-changing events. However, after reflecting on my vision board and the things I truly want to accomplish in both life and business, I realized something important: it’s not about waiting until the end of the year to measure progress. It’s about taking small, consistent steps over a set period, evaluating how far I’ve come, and adjusting from there.

For me, the breakthrough moment came when I realized I don’t have to wait until December to “reset.” Instead, I’m breaking it down into 90-day sprints. This approach has truly transformed how I complete goal-setting because it allows me to track progress in real-time and adjust before I hit a major stopping point. (It’s very similar to the concept I’ve shared before in my blog post reviewing the book the 12-Week Year.)

Do you have a Vision Board?

Now, back to vision boards, do you have one? Vision boards aren’t magic, but they can act as a guide to show you where you’re going. They’re not something you set and forget. They should constantly remind you of your dreams and goals, making them feel real and attainable.

In my opinion your vision board is just the starting point to goals. While it is important to create them to have a feel and a visual reminder on the daily, I believe the real work comes after you have completed this step.

As I look back, I realize that I’ve let some goals slip. Ever since the pandemic, I haven’t been as diligent about tracking both my life and business goals, and I see how it’s affected both. I’m going back to tracking my goals where I break them down more and track regularly (see below). I believe there’s someone out there who needs to hear this too, whether it’s to reset, re-focus, or re-engage with their vision.

Here are some tips for turning your vision board into action:

  1. Make It Visual & Inspiring: Use images, words, and quotes that really ignite your passion. The more personal, the better. For instance, my family and I are working together to dream about vacations and even our future pool! Once we have our family goals set, they’ll go on our family vision board.

  2. Break It Down into Manageable Pieces: Instead of focusing solely on big dreams, it’s important to break them down into smaller, actionable tasks. This helps you turn your goals into tangible progress, rather than just wishful thinking. For instance, if your goal is to save for a pool, start by researching the total cost and determining how much you need to save each month to reach your goal. Then, create a plan for how you will set aside that amount, whether it’s cutting back on certain expenses, setting up automatic savings, or finding extra sources of income. By breaking it down into manageable steps, you’ll feel more in control and motivated to keep moving forward. I’ve found that taking a few simple, intentional steps can help me make progress toward multiple goals at once.

  3. Consistency is Key: The beauty of setting 90-day goals is that you’re consistently checking in and adjusting along the way. If something’s not working, don’t hesitate to pivot. This approach gives you more flexibility and takes away the pressure of waiting until the end of the year to see if you’ve hit your target - or worse, convincing yourself there’s still plenty of time. 🙄 I’ve learned this the hard way in the past. When I take just a minute each day to review my business numbers, it makes such a big difference, and I find I have a much more successful year overall.

  4. Incorporate Affirmations: Reinforce your vision daily. Affirmations aren’t just motivational quotes, they’re powerful tools to shift your mindset and build belief in your ability to succeed. Honestly, this is an area I’m working on too! My goal is to make affirmations a regular part of our daily routine as a family, and I’m excited to see how it helps us stay focused and motivated.

  5. Celebrate Your Wins Along the Way: Don’t wait for the end of the year to recognize your achievements. If you’ve hit a small milestone, take a moment to celebrate it! This keeps the momentum going and helps build your confidence along the way. Another thing I’m terrible at and will be putting more emphasis on this year.

Final Thought: If you haven’t created a vision board yet, I highly encourage you to do so, or at least a list of things you want to accomplish. And if you have one, don’t let it gather dust! Break down your big dreams into actionable steps, and most importantly, celebrate your progress along the way.
