August Color of the Month: Indigo (a.k.a. The Berry That’s Not Quite Purple)
August is here, which means two things, a brand-new SeneGence color theme and me trying not to go off on another “Is indigo purple or blue?” tangent.
Technically, indigo isn’t purely purple, but this month’s theme is leaning rich berry-indigo, which is perfect for that late summer, almost fall vibe. Up north, you might be feeling a cool breeze, but here in Florida, we’ve had heat advisories almost every day for the past week. I’m still sweating, but thanks to my SeneGence makeup, it stays perfectly in place. My face isn’t melting, I’m just glistening on top of it. 😅 Okay let’s get back on track…
The Clues & My Totally-Not-Insider Guesses
Before we dive in, I feel like I need a disclaimer, I do not know what SeneGence is releasing this month. These are simply my guesses and hopes for what I’d personally love to see for myself and my clients.
Clue 1:
“The rich and deep hues of indigo guide us through a month of intuition and devotion. In the first week: A mysterious BERRY shade whispers of elegance and allure.”
My guess is Manhattan Mauve, or something in that mauve-berry family. We’re missing a true mauve-berry lip now that Lexie Berry, Berry LipSense, and Glam Doll are gone. We don’t need another Violet Volt, we need an everyday, wearable mauve-berry that works for the majority of women. So we will see what they have up their sleeves!
Clue 2:
“Soon after, a Silky infusion follows, adding a touch of berry-tinted luxury.”
At first, I was really hoping this would be Plush Plum Glowify Lip Plumping Gloss, please bring it back at some point. But the word “silky” makes me think it might be a berry shade of Lip Oil instead. If it is, I’ll be extremely happy with that too. Lip Oils feel amazing, they’re light, smooth, and perfect for quick on-the-go wear. You just don’t want to wear them over LipSense unless you’re okay with your color breaking down faster.
Clue 3:
“As the month deepens, a satin-smooth surprise in a luscious Berry hue makes its graceful debut. FINALLY!”
This has LipSense Cream written all over it, probably in a satin finish. I’m guessing we’ll see a beautiful berry tone that’s perfect for late summer. While I personally prefer the original LipSense formula, the creams are loved by so many, and they’re a fantastic catch-all product. You can use them on your lips, cheeks, and eyes. Even though they’re not my favorite for the eyes, I absolutely love them for lips and cheeks. They make your makeup routine fast and easy when you’re on the go and still want a pulled-together look.
Clue 4:
“A familiar shade in the GLOW collection returns, echoing the wisdom of the month’s indigo theme.”
This one has me stumped. Maybe Indigo ShadowSense makes a comeback? Or maybe Deep Plum ShadowSense? That would be perfect timing heading into spooky season. The rainbow collection we had before was so useful for mixing custom colors and getting creative with looks, so we will see.
Clue 5:
With Men’s Grooming Day, Women’s Equality Day, and International Demo Day happening this month, it’s a great reminder that you can always book a one-on-one with me. Whether you want help with your current SeneGence products, have questions about something new you’re considering, or want personalized help applying your makeup, I’ve got you covered. How to Wear Berry Tones Boldly (Even If You’re Color-Shy)
Berry tones are beautiful, but they can feel intimidating if you’re used to soft neutrals. Here are some ways to ease in and still feel like yourself.
1. Pair berries with the right clothing colors
Neutrals like cream, beige, charcoal, and navy let berry tones shine
Soft sage, blush, and camel create a warm balance
Black with berry gives instant drama and elegance
2. Match to your coloring
Fair skin and light hair: Try softer berries like mauve or roseberry
Medium to olive skin: True berries and raspberry tones pop beautifully
Deep skin tones: Go bold with blackberries and plums for high contrast
3. Start small
Try berry as a soft eyeliner for a subtle modern twist
Add a berry gloss over a nude or pink LipSense for a hint of depth
Dab a bit of berry ShadowSense in the outer corner or lower lash line to test the waters
4. Go monochromatic
Use the same berry tone on your lips and cheeks for a fresh, pulled-together look that still feels soft and wearable
